Spoken English for Asian Learners of English: from spelling to interaction
This book has been written to fill a major gap in the teaching and learning of spoken English, with the need of Asian learners of English in mind. There are countless English proficiency cources available, many books on spoken English, and theoretical accounts of English phonology designed for cources for Linguistics. What seem to be missing is an explanation of how to pronounce English words, and how to put them together to form meaningful utterances which other people can understand. This is an essential component of the content knowledge of spoken English of which learners need in order to understand what it is they are trying to learn, and which teachers need if they are to teach English effectively in the classroom.
